About
Tomás Cotik, violin
Tomás Cotik is a violinist, recording artist, and Professor of Violin at Portland State University. He has released 20 albums on Naxos and Centaur Records, reaching more than five million streams worldwide. His discography includes complete works by Bach, Telemann, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as widely praised recordings of Piazzolla and Spanish repertoire. His most recent release, Paganini: Capriccio, features a personal selection of Paganini works and has received international attention.
Cotik is the recipient of numerous honors, including a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, a Fulbright Scholar Award, the Kamelia Massih Outstanding Faculty Prize, the Dean's Council Award for Research, five Global Music Awards, and two International Classical Music Awards nominations. In 2025, he received first prize in The American Prize for string performance.
As a performer, Cotik has appeared as soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster with ensembles including the Amernet String Quartet and the New World Symphony, and has collaborated with artists such as Joseph Kalichstein and Franklin Cohen. He has performed at venues including Merkin Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. His artistic work often integrates historical performance practice with contemporary perspectives and interdisciplinary projects.
Shinmyung Rho, piano
Shinmyung Rho is an accomplished soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist whose career spans South Korea, Germany, and the United States. She holds advanced degrees in piano and collaborative piano from the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Hanns Eisler School of Music, where she studied with Fabio Bidini, Wolfram Rieger, and Mi-Joo Lee.
Rho has appeared in recital and chamber music performances at venues including the Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Art Hall, Essen Duisburg, and The Old Church Concert Hall in Portland. She has collaborated extensively with vocalists and instrumentalists in lieder recitals, opera productions, and chamber concerts, and is a laureate of numerous international competitions, receiving prizes in Italy, Spain, Korea, and the United States.
In addition to her performing career, Rho has taught at Gachon University in South Korea, served as a lecturer at the Universität der Künste Berlin, and coached young musicians at music festivals in Switzerland and Germany. She is currently based in Portland, Oregon, where she remains active as a performer and collaborative artist.
